T D Jakes PictureThomas Dexter Jakes (T D JAKES) was born in South Charleston, West Virginia On June 9, 1957 to Ernest Jakes. Even as a child, Thomas Dexter Jakes (T D JAKES) was known in his West Virginian locality as the bad Bible boy. After the death of his father, Thomas Dexter Jakes decided to enter ministry. In 1979, with very small reserve money of his own and with only 10 initial members, Thomas Dexter Jakes (T D JAKES) founded Greater Emmanuel Temple of Faith as a storefront church in Montgomery. Jakes carry on his day job digging ditches in order to support his ministry until the church was able to support him. During its first 10 years, the church grew to more than thousand members. In 1982, Jakes turned to full-time ministry. When he was 24 in 1981, he married Serita Ann Jamison. They have five children together Jermaine, Jamar, Cora, Sarah, and Thomas Jakes. T D JAKES is one of the strong advocate of abstinence and has made appearances on the subject ranging from Good Morning America to Dr. Phil. When the President George. W. Bush visited the areas affected by the Hurricane Katrina, in 2005, T. D. Jakes also accompanied. The President Bush describes Jakes in his book as a kind man who puts faith into actions.

T. D. Jakes married Serita Ann Jamison in 1981. They have five children. T. D. Jakes has written 30 books. Many of the Jakes books have been featured on the best selling list. Through television channels, Jakes sermon are broadcasting national levels and international levels. Jakes is also a song writer and performer. Several popular conferences were hosted by Jakes. Examples for them are “Woman, Thou Art Loosed”, “G Unit ManPower” etc.

T D JAKES has received numerous honors, including 13 honorary degrees and doctorates. He has also received Grammy and Dove Award nominations for Gospel album “Live at The Potter’s House.” PBS Religion and Ethics Newsweekly named Jakes among America’s “Top 10 Religious Leaders.” Time magazine featured Jakes on the cover of its September 17, 2001 issue with the provocative question: “Is This Man the Next Billy Graham?”. T.D. Jakes is also the Senior Pastor of The Potter’s House, a multicultural church with over 30,000 members, located in Dallas, Texas. T.D. Jakes and his wife of nearly 30 years, Serita Jakes, live in the Dallas, Fort Worth area. They have five children and two grandchildren.
